Tesla Motors produces high-end electric cars that are classy. And most of the customers love their Tesla cars. Does it mean they are perfect, though? No!

In a popular Quora thread, Tesla car owners decided to list their biggest fears they had for their cars. The complaints cover a long range of things including the car’s fit, finish, and the quality. If the complaints are anything to go by, Tesla might have a real job into their hands to try and bring out a marvelous product that people would not actually complain about.

Excerpts from the Quora thread and here are some of the few that were crucial. A certain Christian Bull wrote that Tesla was a nice car loved by all at the moment, but there were doubts once the competitors came into the electric vehicle market and started producing worthy cars. His thread read:

Sub par fit, finish and quality feel. American cars have a terrible reputation for fit and finish. Tesla lives up to this reputation. I also get the impression that Tesla initially had to source parts from second rate suppliers, and things feel a bit rickety and primitive. Things just don’t feel very solid. If Tesla intends to remain competitive in the premium/luxury market, they need to improve. I think they have, though. A 2015 Model S is a lot nicer than an early 2014, but they still have a ways to go. […]

A colleague of mine, who also has a Model S, has also experienced many of the same problems. Still we agree, as do most Model S owners, that there’s no alternative. Nobody wants to go back to driving an ICE car.

Another user, Kirsten Oulton was conscious of the slow growth of the supercharger network in Canada and service center availability. And according to her, just like Bull, the fit and finish still have a long way to go if compared to other cars. Her own post read:

The leather, stitching and other materials on the Model S are not as good as a Maybach! Some people expect Tesla’s to be luxury vehicles, not understanding that they are actually performance vehicles. In addition, as a young car company, Teslas sometimes demonstrate utterly inexplicable design fails such as poorly-placed cupholders and a lack of lights in the visor mirrors. We expect these things to be corrected over time as the design team spends a bit less time focussing on the mind-blowing core technology and a bit more time listening to customer feedback, but they aren’t perfect today.

Peter Marreck, a Tesla owner himself, said he felt he had no option but to stick with Tesla simply because of how the experience of owning an electric car was like. There was no other car on the market he could buy right now. On the Quora thread he wrote:

I have yet to meet or hear of a Tesla owner that wants to go back to an ICE vehicle (and no OTA software updates, no touchscreen, no self-driving, and no electric motor, much less no instant torque). It would be like an iPhone owner wanting to go back to a Nokia. There is probably some self-selection going on there (in that people who buy Teslas are likely already “green-worldview-friendly”), but I really think that most anyone who drives one of these things for a little while will find it grows on them rather quickly (literally and figuratively).

Many complaints have been raised within the thread including CarPlay integration and Android, poor placement of cup holders and buggy door handles.

  1. Seattle: My Model S 85 is now 16 months old with 19,500 miles on. Besides the cup holders and lack of door pockets, mine has one rattle in it somewhere behind/near the right rear passenger, but I only hear it on the stretch of I-5 southbound near Boeing Field. I have had no problems with it except the occasional computer lockup (after all, it is a computer) and Cruise Control dropping off going up hill on this one stretch of road in the mornings going to work.
    This car is in a class all alone compared to anything I have ever driven. Yeah, there is room for improvement, but I’ll take this car over any other any day and always
