The co-creator of Siri, Dag Kittlaus is making another Artificial Intelligence and digital assistant which many people believe to be the next generation of Siri.
The new creation named Viv is a new AI startup that is aimed at replacing the whole app world with mew natural language commands.
A public demo of the AI startup was shown at the TechCrunch Disrupt event in New York. Kittlaus was the one who showed the demo and he showed attendees at the conference which took place at the Brooklyn Cruise in Red Hook the AI tech that he believes will beat all the virtual assistants available on the market right now. In a year where bots and AI technology is on the forefront, the new Viv tech might just beat Siri, Cortana, Google Now, and Amazon’s Alexa.
The new tech was just said as rumors last year, but the new demo was the first time the public really saw it in action. The public demo involved the new tech talking to a phone and a computer, which seemed a lot like what the existing virtual assistants on the market right now can do. The questions did get harder as the demo progressed, with questions like;
will it be warmer than 70 degrees near the Golden Gate Bridge after 5pm the day after tomorrow?
Kittlaus managed to use Viv to do other things such as ordering flowers, sent money (simulation) through Venmo, searched for free hotels for a vacation and also managed to order a 6 person Uber ride to Madison Square Garden with the new Viv technology. He says that Viv can seamlessly pull up third party services, therefore, rendering apps useless.
There was a mild response to the demo and it mostly looked like the Amazon Echo service. Kittlaus acknowledges that Viv works through dynamic program generation. According to him, when the tech understands what the user wants, it can generate a program as needed. This makes Viv a tech service that can build services, but this is all in theory.
Viv also has other qualities which include:
- It has plugins to other things
- Viv is always listening
