Samsung recently launched the final version of Android 9 Pie for their latest Galaxy Watch on August 6, 2018, along with the Galaxy Note 9. The Samsung Gear app for the company’s wearables has also got a new name. Users will now have to look up for Galaxy Wearable in the Play Store to download it.
The Samsung Gear app could be used for Gear Smartwatches like Gear Sport or Gear S3 along with the IconX wireless earbuds and fitness trackers. The word Gear from its wearables now seems to have been removed by Samsung and now the new wearable bears the name Galaxy Watch.
This also seems to be the reason to have renamed their app so they could match it with the name of their wearable. The renamed and updated app which now runs on Android 9 Pie will support the Galaxy Watch and run on Android devices.
Besides offering support to the latest Samsung Galaxy Watch the updated app will also support a wide range of other wearables from Samsung such as Gear S3, Gear Sport etc. Although wearables below the Gear S3 are no longer included in the main list but they do pop-up when you search to pair devices with the app.
Android 9 Pie Compatibility
Earlier, the Samsung wearables were not quite compatible with the Android 9 Pie but now after receiving an update, the users are finding it quite easy to pair and work on their devices through the app. Samsung has made an official announcement that they would continue to fix the problems related to the Pie compatibility with their wearables.
The all-new Galaxy Wearable app can be downloaded from the Play Store. The update has already been rolled out by Samsung. Those who haven’t yet received it should be able to access it within a few hours.
