Atlas is a robot designed to recreate the movements of human and animals. It has taken a walk in the woods.
It is a 1.5m ‘Humanoid’ and it has made by Boston Dynamics owned by Google. It’s designed to walk on uneven surfaces.
An articulated sensor head includes stereo cameras and a laser range finder. The robot is controlled from an off-board, electric power supply via a flexible tether.
A few copies of the robot are being given as Government Furnished Equipment to the DARPA Robotics Challenge program with delivery planned for the mid-year of 2013.
Atlas can keep his balance and hopefully, he will be able to walk without a power cord.
