To help people with visual impairments enjoy photos posted on the leading social network, Facebook on Monday begin using Artificial Intelligence. For recognizing objects in pictures and describe photos aloud, the Company introduced Machine Learning Technology on 4th April 2016. The Accessibility Specialist Matt King spoke to media about this technology. He said,
As Facebook becomes an increasingly visual experience, we hope our new automatic alternative text technology will help the blind community experience Facebook the same way others enjoy it.
The mobile devices powered by Apple iOS have been used to test this feature on mobile phones. The capability to devices with other kinds of operating systems has been planned to expand by the company.
It is comprised of a Neural Network taught to recognize things in pictures using plenty of examples with this technology that works across a Facebook family of applications. Kind said that more than two billion pictures are shared daily across WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram, and Facebook. It would be a great feature for blind people to identify any picture.
The research project is under process to show how these capabilities could be woven into the applications to help visually impaired people and are known as Seeing AI. Tapping its current capabilities to describe photos is a huge step towards blind people while this technology is still nascent. Visually impaired people are very excited about using this feature developed by Facebook. It is a very worthy feature you’d love to use for your visually impaired loved ones.
